Camberley & District Funeral Directors Vintage Tea Party
After a precarious week weather wise we woke on Saturday 10th June to glorious blue skies and sunshine. Finally the day for our vintage tea party had arrived. This was our summer fund raiser for our LYN charity – The Rainbow Cafe in Camberley. The cafe provides various forms of support, and more importantly, friendship in the form of tea and chatter group, a visiting and befriending service and a base for the elderly in this area to meet. We decided to utilise our outside lawn area and serve teas, coffees and home baked cakes. We held a raffle with lots of wonderful prizes, some of which were donated by local businesses. We also set up a table top book sale to which staff donated their unwanted books. As well as yummy chocolate treats, there were limo rides and a guess the number of sweeties in a jar competition especially for the youngsters attending.
The event was well attended by a mixture of local ministers, celebrants, local residents, former clients and the Manager of the Rainbow Cafe.. Everyone commented on how enjoyable the day was and was there any possibility of this becoming an annual event (which we think is a great idea). The generosity of everyone who attended meant that we raised a fantastic £247.50 to put towards our previous fund raising activities. All of this could not have been achieved without the hard work of our funeral assistants, namely Team Leader Jarrod, Richard Willis, Ian Burns, Phil Eastman and his wife, Wendy.
By the end of the day nearly all the cake had gone, raffle prizes won and we all went home with a sense of accomplishment and very tired feet! We look forward to planning our next soiree.
